As usual, the term ‘perfect’ is subjective. So, I’ve changed it to ‘your perfect’ to make it more appealing. The issue is that they are so many netbooks in the market right now compared to one year ago considering that netbooks are the trend nowadays. So, how do you find the perfect small laptop computer yourself?
Now, one would absent-mindedly argue that the best netbook that you can buy is the most expensive one in the market. But, do you need to spend so much on one small laptop that you would usually use only when you’re travelling? Well, the best advice that we can give you is to read the reviews of the small notebooks yourself then go and have a hands on experience to really know what you need and what you want. Get to know the strengths and weaknesses of each netbook and confirm them when you go and try them out. Of course, personally I feel that netbooks’ price shouldn’t exceed $400 because more than that and you can consider buying a laptop.
Another reason why you want a small laptop is because it is small and light. So, no more lugging around dead brick! Still, what you should be looking at is the size of the screen. If you have eyesight problem it is probably best if you get bigger screen size netbook. A guide for you to choose adequate screen size is by knowing if you can see a word document within an arms’ length between you and the netbook. Then, see whether it is full size keyboard. Full size keyboard enables you to type like using a normal keyboard and of course, preventing you to press on two keys at one time.
Of course, you should also look at other specifications of the notebook. Most netbooks has Intel Atom processor. With that as a standard, you should get 1GB or more RAM to enable your netbook to run smoothly. Check the harddisk space of the netbooks too. 60GB would be standard and more than that, be careful that the netbook will lag for having to load too many data when u boot it on. The operating system should also be considered. As standard OS like Windows XP and Vista are usually loaded for laptops, netbooks’ basic hardware specification might not be able to support the OS. So, it would be advisable to get netbooks with Ubuntu Linux or the most, Windows XP. Linux loaded netbooks would also be cheaper. Also, look out for optical drive and webcam. Loaded with those and your netbook is as good as laptop!
Battery life is another important factor to consider. As netbooks do not take up much energy to run basic programmes, normal battery life should last for more than 5 hours. Carrying an adaptor would not be necessary or you might have to judge whether the place where you are going has access to power switch or not.
